Award-winning comic artist and writer Gerry Alanguilan passed away on December 21, 2019, and comics giant Marvel, with whom he had worked, has written a fitting tribute to celebrate his skills.

"We all mourn the loss of a great man and offer our thoughts to his family and friends at this difficult time. We will always remember and celebrate his incredible artistry," writes Marvel.

Alanguilan, alongside fellow Filipino Whilce Portacio, began inking books for Image Comics in the '90s. In 1998, he inked Wolverine #121, working with another Filipino artist Leinil Francis Yu. He would continue to work with both Portacio and Yu, as well as many other artists through the years.

The article, which may be read on marvel.com, credited Alanguilan for the popularity of comic books in the Philippines and also acknowledged his independent work, which have received buzz overseas.

Marvel added highlights of his work, including Avengers & X-Men: Axis (2014) #4, I Am an Avenger (2010) #1 cover, and X-Force (1991) #105 cover.
