After Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and his upcoming space film Ad Astra, it's clear that Brad Pitt has come and snatched 2019 for himself and no one else. In the newest trailer for the latter, a space thriller due out on September 20, Pitt goes tumbling through the solar system while on mission to locate his lost space hero of a father (Tommy Lee Jones). But if the first teaser didn't sell you completely, the exclusive IMAX trailer that dropped this morning makes the extraterrestrial epic looks headier than ever.

In the film, Pitt plays an astronaut named Roy McBride, which might be the most American astronaut name of all time, shy of John Glenn. After a crash landing on a previous mission, he's pushed to go back into space to locate his extraterrestrial-scientist father, Clifford, and save the world in the process.

With Pitt leading the cast, the rundown of names of performers is a feat in itself—Donald Sutherland, Ruth Negga, perennial space wife Liv Tyler, and the previously mentioned Jones round out the lineup. And sure, there are some movies where pushing an IMAX viewing experience feels a bit like overkill, but when you take the scope of this one into consideration, it's hard to imagine not wanting to see it on the biggest screen possible.

Does it feel like a slightly fancier version of Armageddon? Sure, but that's also just the Liv Tyler jumping out at you. With James Gray directing and the Pitt-volution in full swing, Ad Astra is banking on audiences falling for a good ol' American space story. And after all this time, it could also very well be Brad Pitt's ticket to a much-deserved Academy Award.
