The First Trailer For Jared Leto's Morbius Has A Surprising Spider-Man Cameo
The first trailer for Spider-Man spin-off Morbius, starring Jared Leto, has delivered a surprising crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We already knew that Spider-Man was going to stay a part of the MCU, but we never expected that it would merge with the Sony Marvel universe—at least not this quickly.
However, the trailer ends with an appearance from Michael Keaton's Vulture, reprising his role from Spider-Man: Homecoming, which firmly places Morbius in the MCU.
What's more, at one point, Morbius (Leto) walks past an image of Spider-Man with the word "murderer" scrawled across it. That's a reference to Spiderman: Far From Home's credits sequence, which saw Spidey framed for Mysterio's crimes.
The official synopsis for Morbius is as follows: "Dangerously ill with a rare blood disorder, and determined to save others suffering his same fate, Dr Morbius attempts a desperate gamble. What at first appears to be a radical success soon reveals itself to be a remedy potentially worse than the disease."
The movie also features former Doctor Who star Matt Smith as the villainous Loxias Crown, Jared Harris as Morbius' mentor and 6 Underground star Adria Arjona.
Arjona, who plays Morbius' love interest Martine Bancroft, previously teased details about the upcoming movie.
"Tonally it's really character-driven," she told Digital Spy. "It's both really fun but also really grounded and dark. You follow three characters throughout the story. Not a lot of people know about Morbius, so it's going to be really cool to introduce Morbius as a character, who is so interesting."
Morbius will be released on July 31
