On March 9, 2021, Google.org launched the Google.org Impact Challenge for Women and Girls, which will provide $25 million (P1.2 billion) to nonprofits and social enterprises creating pathways to prosperity for women and girls. The grant seeks to empower women and girls to succeed and transform their communities.

In addition to these grants, the selected organizations will receive capacity-building support and mentoring from Google employees. Impact Challenge was launched from India by Sundar Pichai (Google CEO) and Jacquelline Fuller (Google.org president) via Google India’s YouTube Channel.

Gender inequity is one of the most urgent challenges we face as a society, and COVID-19 has put the economic future of women and girls at even greater risk. At Google.org, we believe that solving big problems requires collective action, and the people closest to the challenges are often those closest to the solution,” wrote Google in a statement.

We want to support organizations helping women and girls turn their economic potential into power: from programs addressing systemic barriers to economic equality, to those cultivating entrepreneurship, developing financial independence, and more.

Organizations in the Philippines and around the world can apply for the Challenge. Applications can include programs addressing systemic barriers or economic equality, cultivating entrepreneurship, developing financial independence, and more.

Grantees will be selected by an entirely female-led expert panel made up of Google executives and global leaders who sit at the forefront of their respective fields. These include Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Executive Director of UN Women; Naomi Osaka, athlete; Shakira, global artist, and philanthropist; and Amanda Gorman, the first U.S. National Youth Poet Laureate, to name a few.
