Coffee is good. Not just when it comes to taste, but also for your health in general. And, researchers have just determined how good it really is for your liver.

A new study, published in the journal Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, has figured out just how much coffee you need to consume to save your liver. "Increasing per capita coffee consumption to > 2 cups per day on a population level has the potential to avert hundreds of thousands of liver-related deaths annually," researchers say.

Yup, that's right. Two cups of coffee a day keeps... liver-related deaths away. The saying might not be as catchy as it is for apples, but it's still very much true. How about non-coffee drinkers, you ask? Well, they may be more at risk for liver diseases. In fact, the researchers hope more people increase coffee intake daily.

“The mechanism by which coffee offers protection from liver disease has not been clearly demonstrated, but it appears that caffeine is not the protective chemical. Of the many compounds in coffee, diterpenes and chlorogenic acids are the most studied in liver disease," the study authors stated.

But, of course, everything should be taken in moderation.
