Stay-At-Home Moms Should Be Paid P8 Million A Year, According to Study
They don’t officially have a job designation and are not entitled to any day-off, leaves or corporate benefits, but stay-at-home moms are worth $160,000 (more than Php 8 million) a year, or Php 621,483 a month* according to job site Salary.com.
Salary.com, which, according to their website “helps people understand their worth,” arrived at the computation by looking at several jobs “that reflect a day in the life of a mom” in 2018.
Among the jobs a stay-at-home mom does are: teacher, coach, psychologist, janitor, photographer, plumber, tailor, dietitian, and event planner for a 96-hour workweek (about 16 hours a week, 6 days a week).
Putting value to the work that stay-at-home moms put in has earned praise among women who have given up a career in favor of their family — and to them, this information is refreshing. For the longest time, stay-at-home moms have had to put up with condescending comments implying that they “do nothing” just because they stay at home. Among Filipino parents, some of the common misconceptions they hear are “Mabuti ka pa, walang ginagawa,” “Nasa bahay ka lang pala,” and “What do you do all day?”
