JAZA’s Eldest Daughter, Mariana Zobel de Ayala, Takes Seat at BPI as Vice President

The third generation of Ayalas is stepping up. Mariana Beatriz Zobel de Ayala, eldest child of Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and Elizabeth Eder, has taken her seat as Vice President of the Bank of the Philippine Islands, the banking arm of the Ayala family’s business empire.

In a disclosure on the stock exchange, BPI posted the initial statement of beneficial ownership of securities by the new vice president. Mariana has been making the rounds in the family’s many businesses through the years, first at Ayala Corporation followed by four years at Ayala Land where she headed the Ayala Malls The 30th as general manager.

Prior to entering the fold, she worked at JP Morgan as an analyst in New York City for two years.

Like her father before her, Mariana is a Harvard graduate and earned her masters degree in business administration at INSEAD, one of the world’s leading business school for graduate studies.

According to the businesswoman’s LinkedIn profile, she also holds a number of director positions among Ayala Corp’s various subsidiaries under Ayala Healthcare Holdings (AC Health) and Ayala Land.

Mariana is the eldest child of Jaime and Elizabeth Eder. Her brother Jaime Alfonso, JAZA's only son, is also in the family business as a member of the board at Ayala Logistics Holdings. Mariana is married to Danel Aboitiz, a scion of the Aboitiz clan, who is currently executive director at Aboitiz Power Corp.
