Jeff Bezos Is Flying to Space on a Blue Origin Flight
Jeff Bezos is going to the edge of space on the first crewed flight of his aerospace manufacturer and sub-orbital spaceflight services company Blue Origin.
The inaugural flight is set on July 20 through the firm's New Shepard rocket. Bezos will be joined by his brother and four other passengers including the winner of Blue Origin's private auction.
In an Instagram post, the Amazon founder said: "Ever since I was five years old, I’ve dreamed of traveling to space. On July 20th, I will take that journey with my brother. The greatest adventure, with my best friend."
As of this writing, the auction is already at $3.5 million (approximately P166.9 million) with nearly 6,000 participants from 143 countries. The bidding is currently live at the Blue Origin's site, and concludes on June 12.
According to Blue Origin, the proceeds will be donated to the company's foundation Club for the Future which hopes to "inspire future generations to pursue careers in STEM and help invent the future of life in space."
The mission marks a milestone as Bezos will be the first of his fellow billionaire space tycoons to actually take off and ride aboard his own rocket to space.
