Looks like Jeff Bezos' massive fortune didn’t get the memo that there’s a global recession. The founder and CEO of Amazon set new records after his net worth closed at $197.8 billion on August 18. (His net worth right now is at $194.9 billion, as per the Forbes real-time tracker).

That is the highest net worth ever recorded of the billionaire, and also the biggest that Forbes has ever recorded in its 40 years of tracking the world’s billionaires.

Bezos owns 11.1 percent stake in Amazon, which has seen its stock prices and market capitalization skyrocket during the pandemic. It’s now worth around $1.66 trillion on the market, boosted by the demand for online commerce and shipping as the world crisis keeps everyone home.

To give you a better understanding of his wealth, Bezos’ net worth is only a couple of billions shy of the entire gross domestic product of the nation of Greece, the country with the 51st highest GDP in the world. The billionaire’s billions are greater than the economies of around 150 countries, including Qatar, Bulgaria, Iceland, and much much more.

Bezos is also richer than Bill Gates ($113.8 billion) and Warren Buffet (78.3 billion)—combined.

But it looks like Bezos isn’t even trying. The billionaire has been selling his stocks in Amazon since the start of 2020. In February, he sold $1.7 billion worth of stock, and in August, he sold $3.1 billion worth of stock. He also donated $9.3 million worth of stock to a nonprofit group.

And yet, the richest man in the world, and one of the richest in the world’s history, is still getting richer by the day even during a pandemic.
