Ex-Government Adviser Tony Leachon Urges Citizens to Go on Voluntary ECQ
Former government health adviser Tony Leachon has called on Filipinos around the country to heed the plea of our healthcare workers.
His call comes a day after doctors and other frontliners implored the government to call for a timeout to recalibrate and redirect policies. They called for the reimposition of enhanced community quarantine for two weeks, from August 1 to 15, claiming the health system is in distress and may collapse if stricter measures are not imposed immediately.
In a post on Facebook, Leachon said, "Let us heed the plea of our healthcare workers! Even if we are on GCQ, let us act as if we are on ECQ for the next two weeks, that is, stay at home unless extremely necessary."
"Accept the reality that our situation is not getting any better. We don’t need the government to put us on ECQ. We can do it voluntarily!" he said. "Let’s do it for our healthcare workers... and for ourselves and families."
He asked the citizens of the primarily Catholic nation to stop going to church, but to unite in prayer. He also exhorted people to refrain from going to restaurants, gyms, salons, and barbershops. He advised people to refrain from using cash and to do online transactions instead, as well as to observe strict health protocols
Leachon made the call as Department of Health announced the COVID-19 cases have passed the 100,000 mark, with a record 5,032 new infections .The total number of infected rose to 103,185.
Meanwhile, Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto annouced Pasig City Hall will return to a skeleton work force for two works from August 3 to August 16, 2020. The exceptions are health-related offices, hospitals, peace and order offices, CSWD, and DRRMO, which will remain at full operations)
