The official Instagram account of the Presidential Communications Office (PCOO) has been hacked, and its profile was replaced with a picture of camels. Hackers also uploaded two videos of camel races in Kuwait.

In an official statement, the PCOO decried the cyberattack. “We decry the malicious act by unknown individuals who hacked the Presidential Communications Operations Office’s Instagram Page, with the handle @pcoogov,” said Presidential Communications Assistant Secretary for Global Media and Public Affairs Jusan Vincent Arcena. "We are now looking into this matter and have coordinated with Facebook to resolve it immediately."

Camel racing is popular in Kuwait, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Somalia, and the United Arab Emirates. It is unclear, however, why the hackers chose camel racing as the subject to deface the PCOO’s Instagram account.

Traditional camel racing makes use of children as jockeys, but this was seen as a serious violation of human rights, resulting in the banning of the use of children as jockeys in some countries where camel racing is done. Modern camel racing makes use of remote controlled robotic whips attached to the camel’s back.

As of this writing, the camels on PCOO’s Instagram profile have been taken down, while the uploaded videos are set to disappear in a couple of hours.
