Earlier this week, reports of SEA Games athletes allegedly being served kikiam for breakfast went viral. Let Dimzon, coach of the Philippine women’s football team, criticized the quality of food served at the hotel.

"I'm not sure kung paano ang arrangement ng PHISGOC, but the quality and quantity of food is not enough. Sa variety din, like for this morning, hindi enough 'yung rice and kikiam and egg. Walang nutrients,” said Dimzon in a report by ABS-CBN.

Days after the kikiam for breakfast issue went viral, the hotel released a statement explaining it served chicken sausage, not kikiam. How could Dimzon have mistaken chicken sausage for kikiam? The two are different in size, texture, and appearance.

SEA Games executive chef Bruce Lim explains how Dimzon and other athletes may have confused the two very different foods.

“It’s basically chicken hotdog. The hotel wanted to liven it up a bit so what they did was saute it with soy sauce and different spices, so it looked like kikiam but it really wasn’t,” said Lim in a report by ABS-CBN.
