Why Pastor Quiboloy Refused to Use His Powers to Stop Typhoon 'Tisoy'

Bashers are to blame.

When Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, head of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name, allegedly stopped the October 31 Cotabato earthquakes, people immediately turned the good pastor into an Internet meme. A picture of Quiboloy with outstretched hands and a speech bubble with the word, “STOP!” is used to express the desire for something not to happen.

For example, when you don’t want your bills to keep coming, use the meme with text, “Bills, Stop!” Or when you don’t want to add weight while eating, perhaps: “Fats, Stop!” When news of an incoming typhoon broke, Filipinos used the meme to prod Quiboloy to use his powers to stop it: “Tisoy, Stop!”

Apparently, the blasphemous memes did not sit well with the self-proclaimed owner of the universe and appointed son of God.

Kasi nung ini-stop ko yung earthquake, nagalit man sila. Binash ako ng napakarami. So, baka i-stop ko yung bagyo baka magalit na naman. O, kaya pinabayaan na natin," he said in a report by GMA News.

(“When I stopped the earthquake, they got angry. Very many people bashed me. If I had stopped the typhoon, people could have gotten angry again. That’s why I allowed the typhoon to come.”)

Quiboloy was a member of the United Pentecostal Church until he founded his own religious group in 1985, the Kingdom of Jesus Christ, The Name Above Every Name. It initially had 15 members. Since then, his sect has grown to six million, about four million of whom reside in the Philippines, and the rest overseas.

Watch a video of Quiboloy below as he discusses his wealth and how he allegedly became the Christ on Earth.
