Halloween is the perfect time to flex those creative muscles, but a duo costume is twice as hard (because, you know, twice the people). But instead of going the route of say, ketchup and mustard, try something that's a bit more relevant. There are those couples' costumes that you've seen over and over at this point—let's retire those. In their place, go for something that will make people actually laugh. A couple's costume doesn't have to be for the romantically inclined, but if you're going to attempt it, you better stick the landing.

1| Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus

Take the biggest song of 2019 and turn it into a couples costume? Absolutely. Really what you’re looking for here is a blazer bedazzled within an inch of its life, a colorful cowboy hat, and a good sense of humor. And if you’re Billy Ray Cyrus in this equation, just denim yourself from head to toe. Horses (in the back) not included.

2| Any Duo from 'Us'

This could be fun in a couple different ways. If you want to go as Winston Duke and Lupita Nyong'o, you’re not going to have a bad Halloween. If you want to take it up a notch and one of you play Winston Duke and the other play his tether, then you’ve leveled up.

3| Steve and Robin from 'Stranger Things'

We should have picked up on the fact that this was going to be a prime couples costume. With multiple retailers offering the full outfit (for both characters!) all you have to do is be a big enough Stranger Things fan to invest in one-off costumes.

4| Fleabag and Hot Priest

One of summer’s biggest sleeper hits has the best couples costume of the season. One of you will be the hot priest, and if you can find a simple dress-and-shirt combination for the role of Fleabag, then you have a relatively simple, yet effective, costume.

5| Beyonce and Jay-Z

Still relevant. Always relevant. All you need to be Beyonce and Jay-Z are some brightly colored power blazers (no shirt underneath) and some thick jewelry. Don't smile and don't speak.

6| Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin

Justin Bieber, king of sleaze, requires any type of clothing that most people wouldn't wear outside of their homes (or outside of 1992). Hailey loves a good bra-and-bike-short outfit with some sort of jacket or sweatshirt falling off one shoulder.

7| Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

Prince Harry: classic blue suit, tie, and dress shoes. Meghan: a mid-length dress (probably from J.Crew), heels, and maybe a copy of a supermarket tabloid devoted to her numerous alleged feuds.

8| Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

You can wear real Yeezy. Or, you can wear all of your old clothes that have questionable stains and rips because who can really tell the difference?

9| Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood

The judges of The Great British Bake Off are iconic. Paul Hollywood loves a faded blue denim, bad shoes, and a contrast-collar (and sleeves, apparently) button-front shirt. Mary Berry loves bright blazers and blue jeans.

Wear as many sequins as humanly possible. Also, yell a lot.
