WATCH: Dior Men’s Summer 2021 Show Livestream from Paris
At last, the heavens open up to break the spell of the most excruciating summer. Apart from the healing rain, the new season coincides with more soul-soothing goodness: the rush of digital fashion shows. As physical presentations in London, Milan, and Paris have been suspended because of the coronavirus, fashion houses have pivoted to alternative ways of delivering their collections.
In Paris, one of the most awaited menswear shows is gearing up for its online debut. The summer 2021 collection of Dior Men goes live on July 13, Monday, 2:30 p.m. in the City of Light—that’s today at 8:30 p.m. in Manila. Watch the space below.
What to expect? An Instagram post by @dior drops two important hints: Creative director Kim Jones’s collaborator for the season is the artist Amoako Boafo and the medium of the men’s presentation will be a film by Chris Cunningham. See the post below:
Says artsy.net, the Ghana-born Boafo is “[k]nown for large-scale portraits of Black subjects rendered in bold, gestural strokes.” Take time to view his works here. Now, imagine how his finger-painted swirls will be applied to Jones’ vision of a future summer.
Imagine, too, how Dior Men will welcome the freedom of presenting a collection not intended for a traditional audience—as in bigwigs in the front row of a fashion show. If we’re going to go by the Paris house’s recent couture presentation, which was delivered as a surrealist movie starring fantasy creatures and miniature mannequins, the summer 2021 show is going to be unexpected.
