With (almost) everything opening up and travel becoming more permissable, consumers have switched up their behaviors compared to previous months. According to the Lyst Index's latest report, the new pattern could be a turning point for fashion. The index ranks the industry's most popular brands and products quarterly through shopper behavior, search engine data, and social media mentions.

Some things haven't changed, however: Gucci still led the index as the world's hottest brand for the fourth successive quarter. Dior and Nike followed at the second and third spot while the rest of the top 10 were made up of Louis Vuitton, Prada, Balenciaga, Moncler, Bottega Veneta, Saint Laurent, and Versace.

The index put the focus on Gen Z which has come to be a "powerful force" in fashion. Several of the most searched items were trends associated with the demographic including Nike Air Force One sneakers. For men, Adidas Yeezy slides topped the list of the hottest products. Interestingly, a Thom Browne pleated skirt ranked at the 10th spot—a possible rise to gender-fluid fashion.

"Normality is starting to return to some consumers’ lives, but as the industry looks ahead to a post-coronavirus future, structural changes continue apace—in many cases catalyzed and accelerated by the pandemic," the index said.

It continued, "Digital continues to be an area of rapid evolution and untapped potential for the industry, in terms of both commerce and brand building. During the quarter, a NFT-linked hoodie sold for $26,000 and Gucci hosted a virtual garden in the gaming platform Roblox, just two examples of a new dawn in fashion."
