As far as classic dad sneakers go, it’s tough to beat the original New Balance 997. But even the classics occasionally need an update, and New Balance sees no reason why dad shoes and son/daughter shoes can’t exist in the same sneaker family. Hence today’s drop of the 997 Sport, an updated version of the original that gets a fresh new silhouette and some new colorways, as well as a cool as hell video campaign called “Runs in the Family.”

Featuring the Jaden Smith song “I” from his new album ERYS, and starring NBA World Champ and new L.A. Clippers forward Kawhi Leonard, singer/actor Jaden Smith, Liverpool F.C.’s Mané, and slew of other stars on the NB roster, the video celebrates the power of family, both immediate and extended. Plus it shows off the sleek new styling of the 997 Sport, along with some hype-worthy New Balance apparel to wear with them. Also featured in the spot are both the 997H and the original 997.

The idea behind the spot is to highlight those who stand up to convention and blaze their own path, but who do it with the support of a family—actual family, friends, teammates, coaches, etc. Hence “Runs in the Family.” Throughout the month of July, New Balance will be diving into the individual stories of everyone featured in the new video as part of the New Balance family. Stay tuned for more killer footage of Kawhi, Mané, Francisco Lindor, et al in their stylish new NB kicks.

The new addition to the 997 lineup, with a range of summer-ready colorways, will be available starting today in North America and on July 13th globally at select New Balance retailers and on newbalance.com.
