The wide-leg trouserconsidered a left-field move in a once rigid arenahas been met with scorn from the most vocal of detractors. These people are commonly referred to as 'haters.' But thankfully that didn't stop Sebastian Stan doubling-down on the trend at the Valentino haute couture show in Paris.

Recently, the Avengers: Endgame star took the wide-leg trouser to new heights (well, new widths, anyway), inflating a divisive trend into a statement piece. It's billowy. It's cool. It says 'don't @ me with your boring notions of contemporary menswear.'

He's not alone, either. The rise of streetwearDickies' work pants have long been a skater's essential—has seen designer brands elevate and tailor the wide-leg trouser: less stoner down your local half-pipe, more zoot suit throwback. And, with names like Craig Green, Marni and E. Tautz endorsing a wider leg, the choice crosses the whole gamut of menswear.

Granted, it's not the easiest trend to enlist: Hollywood has access to esteemed stylists and jawlines. But, like Stan, you can allow wide-leg trousers to paddle in the mainstream. Opt for a simple monotone throughout (navy, as ever, is your friend), and only go as far and wide as you feel comfortable. Not so happy with parachute trousers bordering on an exhibition at the RA? Settle for a closer cut, instead. That'll silence the haters for good (or a cutting remark from a companion at the very least).
