What do you get when you take a classic Timex and combine it with the University of the Philippines' trademarks, symbols, images, and icons? The short answer: a watch that smoothly shows your school pride. But since this isn't the first time the university has come out with a watch, there's a lot more to unpack about the new release.

The UP Oblation Timex watches are limited editions that come in gold or silver. At 42mm, the silver is on the larger, more masculine side, while the 37mm gold style is a bit more on the unisex side. What's more, the case back features an engraving of each buyer's full name and student number.

The main draw of the series is a silhouette of Filipino artist Guillermo E. Tolentino's Oblation on the watches' faces. The Oblation has served as the iconic symbol of the University of the Philippines since it was dedicated on March 1939 at the Manila campus. Painted to look like bronze, the concrete sculpture symbolizes 333 years of Spanish rule in the Philippines. (Interestingly, it's been disputed that Fernando Poe Sr. was the model for the sculpture.)

Aside from the timepieces' design details, it's also worth knowing that the proceeds of these commemorative watches will help fund UP's Alay sa Sambayanan outreach activities. With a commitment to serve the people, the Alpha Sigma-led organization symbolizes the fraternity's highest goal. In the past, Alay sa Sambayanan conducted relief and rehab operations for victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

Priced at P6,990, the UP Oblation Timex watches roll out on September 30, 2019. Don't hold off too long to make an order, however, since the price and the significance of the design definitely make this a must-have. Though no details have been given out as to how many will be produced, we're sure the limited release will be snapped up quickly.
