Planning to rush over to Manila for a quick meeting with a client, despite inclement weather? Getting ready to push through with a Friday night out in Makati following a deluge? Yeah, you might want to reconsider.

Waze has tagged Manila, Makati, and Mandaluyong as the three most flood-prone cities in Metro Manila. Also included on the list—based on Waze flood reports per square kilometer since the fourth quarter of 2018, and information gathered by data-science consultancy firm Thinking Machines—are Pasay City, San Juan City, and Pasig City, among others.   6. Quezon City
  7. Taguig
  8. Las Pinas
  9. Navotas
  10. Pasig

“The data garnered in collaboration with the Thinking Machines indicates that more can be done to encourage road safety and alleviate congestion, and we hope to continually leverage the cooperation of our 2.85-million active user base in the Philippines to help prevent accidents by providing crowdsourced updates on heavy traffic, floods, and road closures in real-time,” Waze Philippines country manager Sarah Rodriguez said in a statement.

“Waze data offers a wealth of insight about safety and traffic conditions on our roads,” Thinking Machines CEO Stephanie Sy said in a statement. “We hope this information can be used to design policies and programs that improve transportation for everyone.”

Interested in helping out? Simply report any accidents or floods you come across on the road. Here’s how:

How to report road incidents in Waze

  1. Tap ‘Reports’ (orange button on the bottom right of the screen). This will save your location if you choose to submit the report later.
  2. Select the report type from the ‘Report’ menu.
  3. Tap ‘Send’ to share the report.

So, now you know what areas to avoid when it’s raining cats and dogs. As usual, drive safe out there.
